Tiny homes are being built at a faster paste, which is incredible news.Although these tiny homes are a big step toward lowering the number of those unhoused, I believe affordable housing would be a better option. Affordable housing would be more effective as a long-term solution, rather than tiny homes, which only allow individuals to stay for about six months to a year.I believe that attention should be brought to what is causing such high rates of unhoused people, and address those factors. Although it is great to see that a portion of the 6,266 unhoused will be sheltered within a year, more needs to be done.Leslie Gonzalez LemusSan JoseDemocrats were rightto stick to speaker gunsRe:...Wife of ex-Alaska pilot says she is in shock over averted disaster

He never would’ve knowingly done any of that,” she added, her voice quivering. “That is not the man that I married.”Ethan Levi, a defense attorney for Emerson, said that Emerson was not suicidal or homicidal while on board the Horizon Air flight. “There was no intention to harm himself or other people,” he said.Levi added that Emerson wanted to thank the flight crew for their “timely and heroic actions.”Stat...Photos: Bay Area pumpkin patches in full swing for Halloween holiday

Not even the COVID-19 pandemic could keep “The Milpitas Monster” down for long. After a three-year hiatus, creator Robert L. Burrill says everything looks good for a 47th anniversary screening of the low-budget cult classic on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Century 20 Great Mall in Milpitas. And keeping with tradition, there’ll be a 4 p.m. dinner at Outback Steakhouse before the 7 p.m. show, with a special Monster Menu created for the occasion.Burill plans to honor four people who kept things rolling to bring back the in-person screening: Milpitas Historical Society President Bill Hare, Almaden Lions International Club Peter Herrera, Milpitas Rotary President Paul Ellis and Jathin Ullal of Milpitas-based Saygo. Iconic Bay Area cheerleader Krazy George Henderson — who has a small role in the movie — will be honored, too, and will lead the crowd in a “Milpitas Monster” cheer.“The Milpitas Monster” was first released May 21, 1976, directed ...Wife of ex-Alaska Airlines pilot says she's in shock after averted Horizon Air disaster

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The wife of a former Alaska Airlines pilot who prosecutors say tried to cut the engines of a Horizon Air flight while riding in the cockpit jump seat said Thursday she knew her husband was struggling with depression but that she was in a state of shock over his arrest.“This is not my Joe,” Sarah Stretch told reporters after attending her husband Joseph Emerson's first appearance in federal court in Portland, Oregon.“He never would’ve done that. He never would’ve knowingly done any of that,” she added, her voice quivering. “That is not the man that I married.” Walnut Creek residents concerned after series of recent crimes in downtown Ethan Levi, a defense attorney for Emerson, said that Emerson was not suicidal or homicidal while on board the Horizon Air flight. “There was no intention to harm himself or other people,” he said.Levi added that Emerson wanted to thank the flight crew for their “timely and heroic actions.”State and federal prosecutors accused Eme...Purdy back in practice, advances to next phase of concussion protocol

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KRON) -- San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy was placed in concussion protocol after the team's 22-17 loss on Monday night against the Vikings. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday the second-year quarterback started to have concussion symptoms on the plane ride back from Minnesota. Signs were pointing to backup Sam Darnold getting the start on Sunday should Purdy not be cleared. However, Purdy was back in practice on Thursday (see video below shot by KRON4's Kate Rooney). 49ers WR Deebo Samuel will miss at least two games with an injured shoulder With Purdy back on the practice field, he has cleared at least one step in the NFL's five-step process for returning from concussion protocol. It is unclear what stage Purdy is in at the moment. A viral video on X shows the moment Purdy took a hit to the head on a quarterback sneak. He stayed in the game after that play and later threw two costly fourth-quarter interceptions. Purdy is expected to speak to...Live updates | Tensions rise after Israeli troops briefly enter Gaza for 3rd time since start of war

The Israeli military says its troops and tanks briefly entered northern Gaza overnight into Thursday, marking the third Israeli raid since the war began more than two weeks ago. Airstrikes have ravaged swaths of the Gaza Strip during that time — leaving it looking like a wasteland from space — and residents are running out of food, water and other supplies. Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official tells The Associated Press that the Palestinian militant group needs greater intervention from its allies, including Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, in its war with Israel. The war, now in its 20th day, is the deadliest of five Gaza wars for both sides. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said Thursday that more than 7,000 Palestinians have been killed so far — more than three times the number killed in the six-week-long Gaza war in 2014. In the occupied West Bank, more than 100 Palestinians have been killed in violence and Israeli raids following Hamas’ surprise rampage on Oct. 7 in southern Is...The Jets and Giants will renew their rivalry with what could be a defensive struggle

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Jets and Giants don’t have an NFL rivalry developed from years of playing each other in meaningful games. This one was a New York City rivalry that started a decade before the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. It has evolved over the last half-century to the point where it’s now two teams with New York names based in New Jersey. Their headquarters are about 25 miles apart and they play each other every preseason, and then for real once every four years.“I mean, you’re kind of claiming for the city, right?” Jets center Connor McGovern said. “It’s a fun crosstown rival, same stadium.”The Giants came to the New Jersey Meadowlands in 1976 and the Jets joined them at Giants Stadium in 1984. The teams combined to build and co-own MetLife Stadium in 2010.On Sunday, the Jets (3-3) and Giants (2-5) will play a real-deal game in the latest bid for area bragging rights.“We don’t play them twice a year. You know, you’re just kind of quote, unquote ‘a rival’ bec...Talk radio host Larry Elder ends his 2024 Republican campaign for president and endorses Donald Trump

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Nathaniel Hackett studied what his New York Jets offense did in the team’s first six games — and was blunt with his assessment.“We (stunk) in the red zone,” the offensive coordinator said Thursday. “And we (stunk) on third down.”Talk about not sugarcoating things. His criticism is valid: The Jets rank last in the NFL in scoring touchdowns in the red zone at 29.4%, going 5 for 17 inside their opponents’ 20. New York is also last in third down conversion rate at 25%. The Jets’ ineptitude in both situations has contributed to the offense being ranked 30th overall — unable to consistently score points through the early portion of the season.“I think the biggest one has been the self-inflicted wounds,” Hackett said. “And it’s not just one person. It’s everybody kind of (taking) turns. And for us, we’ve got to settle down. Everybody’s got to do their job. And I think that was kind of the biggest one. “It starts with me doing my job an...Latest news
